Artist-historian Steve Lawes and Unpuzzled Theatre CIC are delivering a free theatre and visual arts programme in summer, in association with Southend Museum. The show, A Knight at the Museum, will take the audience on a captivating journey to uncover the secrets of Southend’s Anglo-Saxon past. Through immersive performance and innovative storytelling, followed by exciting historical art activities, you are invited to help reveal the mysteries of the Prittlewell Prince. After watching a 30-minute child-friendly show in the museum looking at Southend’s amazing Anglo-Saxon history, participants will go on to take part in a medieval-inspired visual arts workshop with Steve.

The story of the Prittlewell Prince is of national importance to our understanding of Anglo-Saxon history and religious practice, and this project brings together historical research with professional artistry inside the museum in what is a first for Southend. All of the actors involved are alumni of the local East15 Acting School degree course, and all the project partners are local professionals.

This project is supported by generous funding from Arts Council England, and with help from the team at Southend Museums Services.

The show is being performed 5 times a day for 5 days, from Wednesday 23rd to Sunday 27th August. Tickets are FREE but limited and booking is essential. All children must be accompanied by an adult. Tickets can be found on Eventbrite.
