THE MITTEN
A PAST PROJECTA Ukrainian Folktale
The Mitten tells the story of how a diverse set of animals can all come together in one place, coexist, and share their own stories.
A CELEBRATION Of COMMUNITY
"The Mitten" was a thought-provoking participatory show that delved into the themes of migration and group identity. Through the seamless interplay of live music, physical theatre, and captivating storytelling, we invited children and adults alike to join us on an immersive journey into the complexities of the human experience.
In a world where thousands of families are forced to flee their homes due to conflicts, "The Mitten" was a powerful exploration of what it means to search for a new sense of belonging. As Southend-on-Sea embraces migrant families and unaccompanied minors, we sought to foster empathy and understanding among our community's youngest members.
We were able to perform before 2,000 children, touring youth groups, schools, family centres and children's festivals.
A Glimpse of a life
MORE THAN A PERFORMANCE
Funded by The Community Investment Board, the Postcode Lottery, Essex Community Fund, 99by19, ROHB and the U.K. Government, this unique production was not just a performance; it was an invitation for you and your family to become an integral part of the story. As we explored the concept of "home," we welcomed your voices and perspectives to shape the narrative, creating an inclusive space where ideas flourished and connections deepened.
"The Mitten" let the power of participatory theatre ignite conversations about home, belonging, and the resilience of the human spirit.
